in Highett

Apex Moving provides removalist services in Highett, a south-eastern suburb of postwar brick homes on regular blocks, with a steady run of townhouse and unit development around Highett Road and the station. Most properties have a driveway and a reasonable approach, which makes jobs here more predictable than in the inner suburbs.

Removalists in Highett

Highett sits around 17 kilometres south-east of the CBD, straddling the boundary between the City of Kingston and Bayside, between Cheltenham, Moorabbin and Hampton East. It is a practical suburb to move in. The original housing stock is mostly postwar brick and weatherboard on regular blocks with driveways, and a large share of it has been redeveloped into townhouses and unit developments, particularly in the streets close to Highett Road and the station.

Access is usually straightforward

Compared with the inner suburbs, Highett is easy on trucks. Streets are wide enough for a full-size vehicle, most homes have off-street parking, and the carry from the truck to the door is generally short. That keeps jobs efficient and makes the quote more predictable. The exceptions are the newer townhouse developments, where several dwellings share a single driveway and the last property in the row can be a long carry, and unit blocks where the parking bays are allocated and there is no obvious place for a truck.

Postwar homes and what they hold

Original Highett homes are modest in floor area but often hold decades of accumulated storage: garages, garden sheds, roof cavities and built-in wardrobes. The furniture itself is usually straightforward, but the volume regularly exceeds what people expect. When we quote, we ask specifically about sheds, garages and anything stored outside the house, because that is where most underestimates come from.

Getting in and out

Highett station is on the Frankston line, and the Nepean Highway runs along the western edge of the suburb, connecting north to the city and south towards Frankston. Highett Road and Bay Road are the main local runs. The Nepean Highway is busy in both peaks, so for moves heading towards the city we generally prefer an early start.

Where Highett moves go

Many stay in the bayside south-east: Cheltenham, Moorabbin, Hampton, Sandringham or Mentone. There is also a steady pattern of downsizing moves out of the older homes into the newer townhouses within the same few streets, which are usually short, single-day jobs. Longer moves further south or interstate need more planning around packing and load order, and we will talk that through when we quote.

Working with Apex Moving

The most useful thing you can do before a Highett quote is walk the garage and the shed, not just the house. Get that right and the rest of the day tends to run to plan.
