Eaglemont sits in the City of Banyule, roughly 11 kilometres north-east of the CBD, between Ivanhoe, Heidelberg and the Yarra flats. It is one of the smaller and more distinctive suburbs in the north-east: Federation and interwar houses on generous blocks, streets that curve with the contours rather than following a grid, mature gardens, and a well-known early planned estate whose layout still shapes the street pattern today.
Slope, steps and driveways
This is the defining feature of a move here. The land falls sharply towards the river, and a great many houses sit well above or below the street. Driveways climb or drop steeply, often narrowing at the entry, and where there is no driveway at all the front door is reached by a flight of garden steps. Steps change a move more than most people expect: they slow every trip, rule out trolleys for much of the load and mean more crew rather than a bigger truck. We ask about the grade and the number of steps when we quote so the day is staffed and priced for what is actually there.
Period homes and what fits
The houses themselves bring narrow hallways, door openings well under modern widths, arched entries that will not take a wide lounge, and in the two-storey homes a staircase with a tight turn. We identify the pieces that will not clear the route when we quote so dismantling or an alternative route is planned in advance.
Narrow streets and truck size
Many of the streets are narrow and winding with mature trees overhanging the carriageway, which makes vehicle height a real consideration alongside width. On several addresses a smaller truck doing two runs is genuinely faster than a large one that cannot get into position. Where a vehicle cannot reach the property we shuttle from a workable point nearby and include the carry in the price.
Getting around
Eaglemont station sits on the Hurstbridge line with a small shopping strip beside it. For trucks the useful routes are Lower Heidelberg Road, Heidelberg Road, Burgundy Street and Rosanna Road, with the Eastern Freeway a short run south.
