Hawthorn East sits in the City of Boroondara, roughly seven kilometres east of the CBD, between Hawthorn, Camberwell, Kew and Glen Iris. The housing is unusually layered for the inner east: Victorian and Edwardian homes and terraces on the older streets, substantial interwar houses, a large stock of 1960s and 70s brick walk-up flats built through the middle of the suburb, and newer apartment buildings along the main roads.
Walk-up flats and stairwells
A large share of moves here are in or out of a unit rather than a house, and most of the older blocks have no lift.
