Removalists in Mitcham
Mitcham sits in the City of Whitehorse, roughly 21 kilometres east of the CBD, between Nunawading, Vermont, Blackburn and Ringwood. The original housing is postwar brick and weatherboard on generous blocks with wide streets and mature gardens, on gently undulating ground. Closer to the station and the main roads, that stock has been steadily joined by townhouses and apartment buildings.
Apartments and buildings near the station
A growing share of moves here are in or out of an apartment. Most of the newer buildings have a lift and a loading area, but many require the lift to be booked and padded through building management, restrict loading to set hours, and want a certificate of currency in advance. Basement car parks also have a height limit that a full-size removals truck will not clear, so loading is worked from ground level. We ask which building you are in when we quote so the access is arranged rather than assumed.
Older homes, slope and driveways
On the established streets, access is generally comfortable — a private driveway, a short carry and room to work at the kerb. The variables are the grade, since some houses sit above or below street level with driveways that climb or drop away, and the battle-axe blocks where a narrow shared drive runs well back from the street. Where a truck cannot get in and back out safely we plan a shuttle from the street and include the carry in the price. The original homes also have narrow hallways and tight door openings, so fridges and larger lounges often need internal doors off their hinges.
Blocks, sheds and stored goods
Block sizes here mean sheds, workshops, garden machinery, trailers and under-house or roof storage are common, and they routinely add more volume than expected. We ask about outbuildings and stored items specifically when quoting.
Getting around
Mitcham station sits on the Belgrave and Lilydale lines with the shopping strip beside it. For trucks the useful routes are Whitehorse Road, Mitcham Road, Springvale Road and Canterbury Road, with the Eastern Freeway and EastLink a short run away. Whitehorse Road and Springvale Road are slow in both peaks and carry restrictions on parts, so start times work around them.
Where Mitcham moves go
Most stay in the east: Nunawading, Blackburn, Vermont, Ringwood, Donvale or Box Hill. There is also a steady pattern of downsizing out of the family homes into the local apartments and townhouses, and families moving in for the block sizes and the train line.
