Warranwood sits in the City of Maroondah, roughly 27 kilometres east of the CBD, between Ringwood North, Croydon, Warrandyte South and the Mullum Mullum valley. It is one of the greener suburbs in the outer east: large blocks, established native trees, streets and courts following the contours rather than a grid, and bushland reserve on many boundaries.

Slope, driveways and truck height

This is where a Warranwood move needs real planning. The ground is genuinely hilly, and many houses sit well above or below the street with long driveways that climb or drop away, sometimes with a bend and a narrow entry. Mature trees overhang a good share of those drives, which makes vehicle height as much of a limit as width. Whether a loaded truck can safely get in and back out again is worth settling when we quote rather than on the morning, and where it cannot we plan a shuttle from the street with the carry included in the price. Wet weather makes a steep drive worse, so we build in a margin on those addresses.

Split levels, decks and steps

Houses built into the slope are commonly split-level, with half-flights between living areas, garages under the main floor, and external steps or decking on the approach to the front door. Steps slow every trip and usually mean more crew rather than a bigger truck, and wardrobes, sofas and appliances often need to come apart or take an external route. We look at the approach and the internal route together, because on a sloping block they are the same problem.

Big blocks, sheds and gardens

Block sizes here mean sheds, workshops, garden machinery, firewood, trailers and outdoor furniture are common, and they routinely add more volume than the house does. These are the items most often left off an inventory and the most likely to change the truck size, so we ask about outbuildings and stored goods specifically.

Getting around

Warranwood has no railway station, with Ringwood, Ringwood East and Croydon the nearest connections and buses serving the suburb. For trucks the routes that matter are Warrandyte Road, Colman Road, Mount Dandenong Road and Maroondah Highway, with EastLink a short run west. The residential streets are narrow and winding, so a smaller vehicle is often the faster option even when the load would fit a larger one.

Most stay in the outer east: Ringwood North, Croydon, Ringwood, Warrandyte, Park Orchards or Donvale. There is also a regular pattern of downsizing off the steep treed blocks into flatter local townhouses, and families moving in for the space and the bushland setting.
