Removalists in Bessiebelle

Bessiebelle is a small rural locality in the Moyne Shire in Victoria\u2019s far south-west, in the grazing country between Macarthur, Heywood and Port Fairy, roughly 300 kilometres from Melbourne. Properties sit along country roads on farmland rather than in streets, with Portland, Heywood and Hamilton the nearest centres for services.

Distance is the defining factor

This is one of the longer runs in the state, and it changes how the whole job is planned. A move to or from Melbourne is a full day on the road each way, which affects the schedule, the crew, the vehicle and the price. We plan these as multi-day or staged jobs rather than anything resembling a suburban timetable, and we set out the travel clearly in the written quote so there are no surprises. Booking well ahead matters more here than almost anywhere — long-distance dates are the hardest to move.

Farm driveways, gates and wet ground

Access here is nothing like a suburban street. Driveways run well back from the road, are frequently unsealed, often pass through a gate or over a grid, and may have little turning space at the house. This part of the state gets a genuinely wet winter, and after sustained rain a gravel or grass surface will not hold a fully loaded truck — a bogged vehicle this far out is a serious problem. We ask about the driveway length, surface and gates when we quote, and where a large vehicle cannot safely get in we plan a shuttle from the road with the carry priced in.

Sheds, machinery and stored goods

Farm properties almost always carry more than the house does. Sheds, workshops, tractors and machinery, yard and shearing equipment, water tanks, generators, trailers, firewood, feed and stored furniture are routine, and they are the part of an inventory most often left off entirely. We ask about outbuildings and equipment specifically, because they change the truck size and crew far more than the number of bedrooms does. It also pays to have packing materials on hand well before the day, since supplies are a long drive away — we can provide them in advance.

Getting around

There is no passenger rail service in the locality; the district runs on road, with Warrnambool the nearest rail connection and Portland and Hamilton the nearest larger centres. For trucks the practical routes are the local district roads out to the Princes Highway and the Henty Highway, which carry the long runs east to Melbourne and Geelong.

Where Bessiebelle moves go

Many stay in the south-west: Macarthur, Heywood, Port Fairy, Portland, Hamilton or Warrnambool. The other regular pattern is the long move — households relocating to or from Melbourne, Geelong or across the border to South Australia.
