Indigo Valley is a rural locality in north-east Victoria, running between Beechworth and Chiltern roughly 270 kilometres from Melbourne. It is a working valley rather than a township: farmland and grazing country on the floor, bush and granite hills either side, vineyards and small holdings among them, and properties spread along the valley road rather than gathered into streets.
Distance and the valley road
The run is the defining factor. A move to or from Melbourne is a long day on the road each way, and the valley road itself is a two-lane country road that is slower than the distance suggests. That shapes the schedule, the crew and the price, so we plan these as full-day or staged jobs and set the travel out clearly in the written quote. Booking well ahead matters, because long-distance dates are the hardest to move.
Hill driveways and surfaces
Access here needs preparation. Driveways run well back from the road, are frequently unsealed, often climb away from the valley floor, and sometimes pass through a gate or over a grid. Turning space at the house is not guaranteed, and after sustained rain a gravel track on a slope will not hold a fully loaded truck. Getting around
There is no rail service in the valley; the district runs on road, with Chiltern, Wangaratta and Wodonga the nearest centres and rail connections. For trucks the practical route is the Indigo Valley road out to the Hume Freeway, which carries the runs south-west to Melbourne and north to the border.
