Heidelberg sits in the City of Banyule, roughly 12 kilometres north-east of the CBD, above the Yarra between Ivanhoe, Rosanna, Bellfield and Eaglemont. It is an older established suburb built across genuinely undulating ground, with interwar and postwar homes on the residential streets, a significant hospital and medical precinct around Burgundy Street, and apartment development close to the station.
Slope and driveways
The land here falls away towards the river, and plenty of Heidelberg properties sit above or below street level with driveways that rise or drop sharply. A loaded truck cannot always get down and safely back out. We ask about the driveway when we quote, and where the truck cannot get close we plan a shuttle from the nearest safe standing point and include that carry in the price rather than discovering it on the morning. Homes built into the grade are often split-level internally too, which changes the crew size.

Getting around
Heidelberg station is on the Hurstbridge line. For trucks, Rosanna Road, Burgundy Street, Banksia Street and Bell Street are the main connections, with the M80 Ring Road and the Eastern Freeway both reachable. Rosanna Road carries heavy through traffic and is slow in both peaks, so early starts are worth planning for.
Where Heidelberg moves go
