Removalists in Alphington
Alphington sits about seven kilometres north-east of the CBD on the Yarra, between Fairfield, Ivanhoe, Northcote and Kew, straddling the boundary of the City of Yarra and the City of Darebin. The established housing is largely Californian bungalows and interwar homes on modest blocks with narrow streets, and alongside it a large former industrial site on the river has been redeveloped into apartments and townhouses, giving the suburb two distinct kinds of moving job.
Apartments and new buildings
In the newer precinct, the move runs on the building rather than the street. Most blocks have a lift and a designated loading area, but building management typically requires the lift to be booked and padded, restricts loading to set hours, and may need a certificate of currency lodged in advance. Basement car parks also have a height limit that a full-size removals truck will not clear, so the load is usually worked from a ground-level loading bay. We confirm those arrangements with you before the day rather than discovering them at the boom gate.
Bungalows and narrow streets
On the established streets the constraints are the traditional ones. Bungalows here have narrow hallways, door openings well under modern widths, and often a few steps up to a front verandah. Original floorboards, leadlight and plaster detail need protecting rather than rushing. The streets themselves are narrow with cars parked both sides, leaving one working lane, and the land falls towards the river so some driveways drop away steeply. A smaller truck doing two runs is frequently the faster choice.
Heidelberg Road and the river crossings
Heidelberg Road runs along the suburb and carries clearway restrictions in peak periods, and the Chandler Highway bridge is the main crossing towards Kew and the east. Both are heavy in the morning and mid-afternoon, so start times are set to load before the roads fill rather than working through them.
Getting around
Alphington station sits on the Hurstbridge line, with buses along Heidelberg Road and the Yarra trails running through. For trucks the practical routes are Heidelberg Road, Chandler Highway, Grange Road and Station Street, with the Eastern Freeway a short run south.
Where Alphington moves go
Most stay in the inner north-east: Fairfield, Ivanhoe, Northcote, Thornbury, Kew or Clifton Hill. There is also steady turnover in the new apartment stock, with part-loads and single-bedroom moves far more common there than full house moves.
