Removalists in Altona North
Altona North sits in the City of Hobsons Bay, roughly 11 kilometres west of the CBD, between Altona, Newport, Brooklyn and the West Gate Freeway. It is a settled residential suburb with an industrial edge: postwar brick and weatherboard homes on regular blocks through the middle, the Altona Gate centre and Millers Road commercial strip along one side, and freight and manufacturing land along the northern and western boundaries.
What is access like at the property?
Good. Streets are wide enough for a full-size truck, on-street parking is rarely contested, and almost every home has its own driveway with a short, level carry. That keeps jobs efficient and makes quoting accurate. The exceptions worth flagging when you book are the unit blocks and townhouse rows added over the past two decades, where parking bays are allocated and the rear dwelling can be a noticeably longer carry from the street.
What actually slows an Altona North move down?
The roads, not the property. Millers Road, Blackshaws Road and Kororoit Creek Road carry heavy freight to and from the port and the industrial estates, and the West Gate Freeway approaches are among the slowest in Melbourne in both peaks. None of that affects the loading, but it changes how long the run to the other end takes. For anything crossing the city we generally recommend an early start so the truck is loaded and moving before the freight builds.
Volume is the other variable
These are family homes, often long-held, and garages, sheds, carports and roof storage regularly hold more than the floor plan suggests. That is where most underestimates come from. When we quote we ask specifically about outbuildings, trailers and stored items rather than counting bedrooms.
Getting around
Altona North has no railway station of its own; Newport and Seaholme on the Williamstown and Werribee lines are the nearest, and buses serve the local streets. For trucks the suburb is well positioned once loaded, with the West Gate Freeway, the M80 and Geelong Road all close by, giving direct runs to the city, the western suburbs, the port and interstate.
Where Altona North moves go
Many stay in the west: Altona, Newport, Williamstown, Yarraville or Laverton. There is also a steady flow of families moving further out into the growth areas around Point Cook and Truganina, and of older residents downsizing into local units. Both are usually single-day jobs given how straightforward the properties are.
