Removalists in Diggers Rest
Diggers Rest sits in the City of Melton, roughly 30 kilometres north-west of the CBD, in the open country between Sunbury, Melton and Keilor. It began as a small township on the railway line and has stayed that way longer than most: older houses on large blocks and rural-residential land around the edges, with newer estate housing added over the past decade as the growth corridor reached it.
Two kinds of property
On the older blocks, access is generous — wide streets or a long private driveway, room to position a truck, and a short carry once you are in. Some of those driveways are unsealed, though, and after sustained rain a gravel or grass surface will not hold a fully loaded truck, so on wet days we keep heavy vehicles on sealed ground and plan the carry. The newer estate streets are the opposite: compact lots, single-width driveways, small setbacks and cars parked both sides leaving one working lane. We ask which part of the township an address is in when we quote, because it changes the truck and the crew we send.
Sheds, stored goods and stairs
The older properties commonly come with a shed, workshop or large garage holding tools, garden machinery, building materials and stored furniture — often more than the house. On the estate side, the housing is frequently double-storey on a small footprint, so the staircase and its landing turn become the constraint, with wardrobes, bed bases and larger sofas the pieces that stall. We ask about outbuildings and measure the awkward items against the stair route when we quote.
Distance and services
Diggers Rest is far enough out that the travel leg is a real part of the day, and the usual moving-day fallbacks — hardware, packing supplies, storage, equipment hire — mean a drive to Sunbury or Melton rather than a quick trip. It pays to have materials on hand before the truck arrives, and we can supply packing materials in advance.
Getting around
Diggers Rest station sits on the Sunbury line, with limited local bus service, so the township runs mainly on cars. For trucks the useful routes are the Calder Freeway, the Old Calder Highway and Vineyard Road, giving a direct run into the city or north to Sunbury outside peak periods.
Where Diggers Rest moves go
Most stay in the north-west: Sunbury, Melton, Taylors Lakes, Keilor, Caroline Springs or Gisborne. There is also a steady flow of families arriving from the middle western and northern suburbs for the block sizes and the newer estate housing.
