Essendon West sits in the City of Moonee Valley, roughly 10 kilometres north-west of the CBD, between Essendon, Aberfeldie, Niddrie and the Maribyrnong River. It is almost entirely residential and comparatively quiet: interwar and postwar houses on regular blocks, wide streets, and a gradual replacement of the older homes with larger rebuilds and townhouse pairs, particularly closer to the river.

Access is generally easy

This is a comfortable suburb for a removalist. Streets take a full-size truck without difficulty, on-street parking is rarely contested, and almost every home has its own driveway with a short, level carry. That makes the day predictable and the quote accurate. The exceptions worth mentioning when you book are the newer dual-occupancy builds, where the rear dwelling can sit well back from the street, and properties on the streets that fall away towards the river, where a sloping driveway changes how a loaded truck can be positioned.

Volume is the usual variable

These are family homes, often long-held. Garages, garden sheds, carports and roof storage regularly hold more than the floor plan suggests, and that is where most moving-day underestimates come from. When we quote we ask specifically about outbuildings and stored items rather than counting bedrooms, because it directly determines the crew size and the truck.

Getting in and out

Essendon West has no station of its own; Essendon and Glenbervie on the Craigieburn line are the nearest, and buses serve the local streets. For trucks, Buckley Street, Rosehill Road and Hoffmans Road are the main connections, with the Tullamarine Freeway and CityLink a short run east. That freeway access is genuinely useful for longer moves once loaded, whether to the city, the airport corridor or interstate. Buckley Street is slow in both peaks, so for a full-day job we recommend an early start.

Many stay in the north-west: Essendon, Aberfeldie, Niddrie, Moonee Ponds or Maribyrnong. There is also a regular pattern of downsizing out of the larger family homes into local townhouses, and families moving in for the block sizes and the river parkland. Both are usually single-day jobs given how straightforward the access is.
