Removalists in Fawkner
Fawkner sits in the City of Merri-bek, roughly 12 kilometres north of the CBD, between Coburg North, Glenroy, Campbellfield and Reservoir, with the Merri Creek along its eastern edge. The original housing is postwar brick and weatherboard on regular blocks with a flat, consistent street grid, and over the past two decades a large share of those blocks have been subdivided, with townhouses and units built behind or in place of the original house.
Flat streets, easy positioning
The terrain here is on your side. Fawkner is flat, the street grid is regular, and there are no steep driveways or long flights of garden steps. Where a block has not been subdivided, these are among the more straightforward moves in the north: park at the kerb or in the driveway, short carry, done.
Shared driveways and unit numbers
The infill is where it tightens. Two, three or four dwellings commonly share one driveway running back from the street, often with a bend and rarely with room to turn at the end, so a large truck cannot get past the first unit. The practical answer is to park at the front and carry, which is entirely workable when it is planned into the quote and expensive in time when it is not. We ask which unit you are and how far back it sits when we quote, then size the crew and the price for the carry.
Original homes and newer townhouses
The postwar houses have narrow hallways and door openings well under modern widths, so fridges and larger lounges often need internal doors off their hinges, and most have a garage or shed holding tools, garden equipment and stored boxes beyond what an inventory captures. The townhouses replacing them are the reverse: easy entry, then a narrow straight staircase with a tight landing turn where wardrobes, bed bases and larger sofas stall. We measure the awkward pieces against the route beforehand either way.
Sydney Road and loading
Sydney Road runs along the western side of the suburb with trams and clearway restrictions in peak periods, and tight kerbside parking outside the shops, so any shopfront or above-shop move is planned around the available loading windows. The residential streets behind are quieter but narrower, with cars on both sides.
Getting around
Fawkner station sits on the Upfield line, with trams along Sydney Road and buses across the suburb. For trucks the useful routes are Sydney Road, Mahoneys Road, Anderson Road and the Metropolitan Ring Road, giving a direct run east or west outside peak periods.
Where Fawkner moves go
Most stay in the north: Coburg, Glenroy, Reservoir, Pascoe Vale, Campbellfield or Preston, with a lot of movement between the older houses and the new townhouses a few streets away. There is also a steady flow of first-home buyers arriving from the inner north.
