What we offer
in Port Melbourne
Apex Moving provides removalist services in Port Melbourne, where single-fronted Victorian cottages and narrow laneways in the older streets sit alongside converted warehouses and modern apartment towers around Beacon Cove and the waterfront. The two halves of the suburb need very different plans: one is about squeezing a truck into a tight street, the other is about booking a lift and a loading dock.

Residential Moves
Household moves across Port Melbourne, from Garden City cottages and Bay Street terraces to waterfront apartments.

Business Relocations
Office and studio relocations in the Salmon Street and Lorimer Street commercial pockets, scheduled around building access.

Specialty Item Transport
Pianos, artwork, bikes and large or fragile items handled with proper equipment, including through narrow cottage doorways.

Removalists in Port Melbourne
Port Melbourne sits in the City of Port Phillip, immediately south-west of the CBD, running from the Yarra and the docklands edge down to the bay at Station Pier. It is one of Melbourne’s more mixed suburbs to move in. The older residential grid around Bay Street and the Garden City estate is made up of single-fronted cottages, terraces and interwar homes on narrow streets, while the waterfront around Beacon Cove and the newer developments is dominated by apartment buildings and converted warehouses.
Cottages, laneways and street width
In the older streets, the constraint is space. Frontages are narrow, many houses have no off-street parking, and rear laneway access is common but tight. A full-size truck often cannot stop directly outside, so we plan the standing spot and the carry distance before the day and price the job on that, rather than discovering it on the morning. Doorways and hallways in the original cottages are narrower than modern standard, which means sofas, wardrobes and fridges regularly need to come apart or take a different route in.
Apartments and waterfront buildings
Around Beacon Cove and the newer towers, the job changes shape. Most buildings require a booked service lift, a loading dock slot within set hours, and a certificate of currency from your removalist before they will let a crew in. Owners corporations often restrict moves to weekdays. Book that with your building manager as early as you can and tell us the window when you book, so the truck arrives when the dock is actually available.
Traffic and access
Port Melbourne is well connected but the approaches get busy. Williamstown Road, Todd Road, the West Gate Freeway ramps and Ingles Street carry a lot of freight, and the route 109 light rail runs along Bay Street through the middle of the residential area. Station Pier traffic can add congestion when a ship is in. For most moves we prefer an early start so the load is done before the middle of the day.
Where Port Melbourne moves go
Many stay in the inner south: South Melbourne, Albert Park, Middle Park or Docklands. Others are people leaving an apartment for more space further out. We also see a steady share of interstate moves through this suburb, given the pier and the freeway access. Whichever it is, the load-out plan is what we work through with you first, because in Port Melbourne that is nearly always the part that decides how the day runs.
