Vermont South sits in the City of Whitehorse, roughly 20 kilometres east of the CBD, between Vermont, Glen Waverley, Burwood East and Wantirna South. It was developed mainly through the 1970s and 80s: single-storey and split-level brick homes on generous blocks, laid out in long curving streets, courts and cul-de-sacs, with mature street trees and a steady replacement of originals by larger rebuilds and townhouse pairs.
Courts, battle-axe blocks and driveways
The street pattern here is the main thing that shapes a move. Court bowls look roomy and are usually the hardest place to turn a long truck once residents\u2019 cars are parked around the edge, and the suburb has a high number of battle-axe and rear allotments where a narrow shared driveway runs 20 or 30 metres back to the house. Whether the truck can get down that drive and back out, or whether the load has to be carried from the street, is worth settling when we quote. Split-levels and large blocks
Much of the original housing is split-level, with half-flights between living areas and a garage under the main floor. The generous block sizes also mean sheds, workshops, garden machinery, trailers and roof or under-house storage are common, and they routinely hold more than the house does. We ask about outbuildings and stored items specifically when quoting.
Getting around
Vermont South has no railway station, but it does have the eastern terminus of a tram route, along with local buses. For trucks the useful routes are Burwood Highway, Springvale Road, Hawthorn Road and Canterbury Road, with EastLink and the Eastern Freeway a short run away for anything crossing the city. Springvale Road and Burwood Highway are slow through both peaks, and the tram tracks along the highway limit where a truck can stop, so loading happens on the side streets.

Most stay in the east: Vermont, Glen Waverley, Wantirna South, Blackburn, Burwood East or Forest Hill. There is also a regular pattern of downsizing out of the large blocks into local townhouses, and families moving in for the block sizes and the schools.
