Removalists in West Footscray
West Footscray sits in the City of Maribyrnong, roughly eight kilometres west of the CBD, between Footscray, Seddon, Braybrook and Sunshine. It grew as a working suburb around the rail line and the industry alongside it, and the housing shows that history: single and double-fronted Victorian and Edwardian cottages, interwar brick homes, a steady wave of renovation, and townhouse and unit infill on the subdivided blocks.
Narrow streets and parking
The original subdivision left small frontages and tight streets, and many cottages have no off-street parking at all. Cars sit nose to tail on both sides, leaving one working lane, which makes a large truck slow to position and slower to reverse out. Where the truck stands decides how much of the day is carrying rather than loading. On the tightest streets a temporary parking arrangement through the council is worth organising in advance, since notice is generally required; where that is not possible we plan an early start and use a smaller vehicle rather than blocking the street.
Cottages, renovations and what fits
Inside, the constraints are the hallway and the doorways. Single-fronted cottages have a narrow central hall, door openings well under modern widths, and little turning space for a three-seater or a fridge — internal doors frequently need to come off their hinges. Original floorboards, plaster and leadlight need protecting rather than rushing. Renovated homes usually add a rear extension with a better back entrance, and where there is lane or side access that is often the smarter route, so it is worth checking rather than assuming.
Townhouses and shared driveways
On the infill sites, two or three townhouses commonly share a single driveway with no turning space at the end, so the truck parks at the front and the crew carries. Those homes are usually two or three storeys on a small footprint, with a narrow staircase and a tight landing turn where wardrobes and bed bases stall. We ask which unit you are and how far back it sits when we quote.
Getting around
West Footscray station sits on the Sunbury line, with buses along the main roads and the CBD a short trip. For trucks the practical routes are Geelong Road, Sunshine Road, Ashley Street, Barkly Street and Somerville Road, with the West Gate Freeway and the Western Ring Road close by. Geelong Road carries clearway restrictions in peak periods.
Where West Footscray moves go
Most stay in the inner and middle west: Footscray, Seddon, Yarraville, Braybrook, Maidstone or Sunshine. There is also a steady flow of buyers arriving from the inner suburbs across the river for the period housing and the proximity to the city.
